Though it may have happened several weeks ago, the Sir. Community has finally bribed community member Sir. MatDef into writing a summary of his adventure at the Game Developers Conference 2008:

This year, once again the GDC was hosted in the Moscone Center in the heart of San Francisco, and since I was close enough to go (and had free tickets) I decided that I really had nothing better to do that day than wander around and see what all the excitement was about. I arrived, and was instantly amazed at the size of the conference. Thousands of developers were there bragging about their latest games, from Rare to Ubisoft and of course our favorite devs of all time, Dice. I went off in search of their booth to perhaps pummel a few of them but was distracted almost instantly by all the shiny hardware at Intel's booth. They had everything from dual quad core systems with 8800 Ultras to single quad core systems with dual ATI 3870 X2's (quite the hardware spectrum). After spending several hours staring and drooling at all the pretty flashing lights I realized that I was missing the main point of the GDC, the games! Far Cry 2 was running on a few computers, but the Ubisoft employees wouldn’t let any of the attendees actually play (which wasn't too bad, since it looked like all you could do with the current build was shoot branches off trees). There was plenty more to see and do, but I’m tired of writing so I'll let the pics speak for themselves.

Since Far Cry 2's release date is September, I was hoping there would be some kind of development from the tree shooting, sunset (not actual night time) and weather demo, there’ve been preaching for the last few months.

Looking at the pics; Autodesk are the people who make Combustion 4, and I spy Gigabyte's newest X48 mainboard, well at least it should be, cause they all look the same.

Yeah next time MatDef can pay for me to go instead, I'd end up writing up on everything, oh the excitement! :p :D

You so should of bribed those ubisoft people to let you play, a few beers or something, the unisoft guy in london looking after the pre-release assassins creed let me look after the stand once i bought him a couple of beers, win! :p

will there be much difference between Farcry and farcry 2? i mean how much of a step up can it ahve graphicswise over a span of around a year? - No new graphics cards have come out yet. They better have fixed the gameplay though and made it better, hopefully this one wont jsut be an ad for the crytek engine

Well, it is a new crysis game, it kinda went Farcry > Crysis > FarCry 2, guessing its to do with plot.

But yeah FarCry 2 new engine and quite a few fixes, lots of non-graphical improvements according to my Xanopedia.

Well, it is a new crysis game, it kinda went Farcry > Crysis > FarCry 2

Not quite. The FarCry team went to make Crysis, which is a spiritual successor.

A completely new team is making FarCry 2, which is technically a sequel but has absolutely nothing to do with either FarCry or Crysis.

sunset (not actual night time) and weather demo, there’ve been preaching for the last few months.

Um... The time of day (including night and sunset) and weather demo was last year and it was real time, though accelerated, of course.

I

want

D-BOX!

That is so crazy, there isn't even a price on the site(s) as to how much D-Box costs.

As my dad said, if you have to ask you can't afford it, and hes probably right.
